New PC Build

This week I built a new PC to serve as a back-up to my laptop for school.  I am also using this PC as a print-server, so I can print wirelessly from my laptop.  I decided to go with an AMD Phenom II x4 2.6 ghz processor.  I paired this with a Biostar Mainboard, with 8 GB of DDR3 1333 RAM, and a 1 TB HDD.  A 24x DVD/CD and a trio of fans round out phase 1 of this build.

Being as this was the first PC I had built in several years, It was very straightforward, and only took about 30 minutes to have the internals assembled and ready.

No video card for now. :( I plan to eventually use this either in a dual-monitor setup, or connected directly to the TV via HDMI.   Gonna need to save some money to get what I want in that department.

A fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to complete the build.  And Chrome by Google as the preferred web browser.  I find it to be much lighter than IE,  and the number of extensions and apps makes it very customizable.

Here she is on the outside.  Not a bad looking case.  This was an economical build, as I have barely over 300 invested in this machine.  I am very pleased with its performance a little over 24 hours in. Seems to be very zippy, and everything is functioning as normal.  I am already enjoying the Google Music beta coming through my stereo system.  The Instant Mix feature is what I really like.  Keep up the good work Google.

First day of school-v3.0. Expectations, and reality - I was pretty close.

Yep, you guessed it, today I began my journey into the IT world, via ITT tech. I am pursuing a computer information systems aas degree. I am completing this via an online program. Obviously there were many factors which led me to choose this particular route. The ability to do my work from any remote location, at my schedule, was vital. I believe this will hold true. On the other hand, my ability to focus may be a little harder than I thought. I'm hoping with some time, practice and persistence, I can better switch between student time and daddy time. Also a new pc in a quiet setting, I believe, will go a long way to helping me focus, and differentiate between the two modes.
To conclude, I am very excited and nervous about my new endeavor. I know all the hard work will be well worth it when all is said and done.

South Carolina Gamecocks 2011 Baseball Calendar

The start of NCAA Baseball season is only a few days away.  Can South Carolina Repeat as National Champs. I hope they can. So I was looking for a Calendar to import into my google calendar to keep up with when and where the games are.  This proved to be not so easy.  The one I did find, courtesy of the University website, had a few issues.  Instead of Showing who the Gamecocks were playing, it would just say baseball.  This made the Agenda view very confusing.  This is where I step in...............

Hello Open Office. I will talk about this program later in another blog post, when I get more accustomed to its use.  But this nifty free app allowed me to edit the .csv given out by USC, into a more understandable format.   Now when looking at the agenda view, you are able to see who the opponent is, as opposed to just "baseball".

Hit the following link to download the South Calendar Baseball 2011 Calendar entries in .csv format, which you can then import into outlook express, google calander, or even your blackberry.  Need a hand with importing?? Drop a comment, let me know what you are trying to do, and I will give ya a hand.  Have a good one. And Go Gamecocks.

Are fitness games for the wii really getting you anywhere?

Well the answer for me is yes! Although I may not consume a traditional healthy diet, I have managed to lose over 25lbs from exercise on the wii alone. I have been using wii fit plus. I just received ea active, and the workouts on it are a lot faster, and planned out better. I can say for me, the wii has been beneficial to my new years resolution. Check back for updates.
